FLYING GEESE IN THE CABIN…….SUPPLY LIST
  Shirley Stutz, Instructor

This quilt features a log cabin block with flying geese running diagonally through each block.  There are multiple ways to set up the blocks to achieve totally different looks.  To accomplish more in class, it is important for you to follow the Pre-Class Cutting Instructions, having all the pre-cutting done before arriving at class.  After cutting, stack all the darks together with widest strip on bottom of stack, building to the smallest strip.  Do same thing with lights.

*If you choose, you may use only 1 light fabric (instead of the 4 listed above), requiring about 2 yards.  Cut one strip of all 8 sizes listed above for lights.

Border:  I suggest you delay selection of border fabric until you have made the quilt.  Many different border combinations can be used.

Bring to class:  We will be using a Rotary Mate Ruler, which has markings to be used to eliminate set-in seams for geese.  All your friends will think you used set-in seams, but all seams will be straight edge to edge.  If you do not already own the ROTARY MATE RULER (this name is marked right on the ruler), please contact shop immediately so they can plan to order and have one reserved for you.

Another rotary ruler—any brand, 24” long
Rotary Mat 17” x 23” or larger.  .
Rotary cutter with good sharp blade, either the medium or large.
Sewing Machine, extension cord.  Be sure to bring foot feed and tray for your table.
Thread in a grayed down shade, sometimes referred to as “muddy shade of a color.”
Basic Sewing Supplies, including small scissors, seam ripper---the things you like to have when you are sewing.
Cushion for your chair—classroom chairs are too low for comfortable sewing.

Extra light if vision impaired; camera if you choose
Irons can be at individual stations, or at 4 or 5 stations around the room.

Pre-Class Instructions:  Pre-washing fabric is your choice; if you prewash, iron fabric with spray starch or magic sizing, to reinstate body to fabric.

PLEASE have the individual strips indicated cut prior to class, so we can begin to stack and subcut sets of strips ready for block construction.

Learn How To:  1. Make blocks without sewing on the paper:  No paper to rip off and you can reuse the pattern.  2. Cut fabric patches the right shape and size every time.  Sew fabric patches correctly the first time--no seam ripping.  3. Press seams in any direction--No bulky seam intersections.
