It’s officially Fall, Ya All - I think everyone loves this time of year here in Amish Country. It’s gorgeous!! We had a very busy and fun September. Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Ohio Amish Country Quilt Festival. After that, we welcomed participants of the Gathering Stitches Mini Shop Hop to our store, where we enjoyed demos, discounts, and donuts. And finally, we finished off with the All Ohio Shop Hop. Wow, we sure enjoyed meeting all 2,000+ Shop Hoppers! It was a busy two months, but we enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who participated.

We continue our busy Fall with the Ohio Amish Country Quilt Shop Hop, which begins October 30th. This year, we have a total of 12 participating shops. Join this 6-day event as we celebrate 23 years filled with friends, fabric, and prizes. As you travel through the Amish countryside, you will receive a free block pattern from each of the 12 participating shops, plus you will see a demo. View the unique Shop Hop quilts designed by each shop, with the option to purchase a quilt finishing kit and pattern. This is a very fun and inspiring hop. When you are done hopping, turn in your completed passport to be eligible for all the great prizes.

Upcoming Classes & Events

October is a busy month in the classroom too. On October 2nd, Elisa will be offering the Serge Along Concord T-Shirt. She does a wonderful job of demonstrating construction and serger techniques like finishing necklines, armholes, and sleeves. Plus, you leave class with a completed T-shirt that is ready to wear.

We are excited to welcome Claudia Dinnell back to Chestnut Ridge. Claudia will be here teaching her newest Workshop Exclusive “Patriotic Parade Design, but during the workshop you are welcome to work on any of her awesome designs. There are still three spots available

Carol is very busy this month with various classes. She is offering it all! We have two of the Machine Embroidery Greeting Card Classes scheduled, starting October 3rd with the Holiday Sentiments Card Class. Holiday Sentiments is all about helping you with the written sentiments on all the major holiday cards you create throughout the year. In this class,you have a huge “bank” of digitized words to mix and match to create what you want your card to say. In other words, you build your own sentiment. Because these words are all separate, you can arrange them in a pleasing manner wherever they will fit on your particular card.

Join Carol on October 28th for her Saturday Myrna Bag class! The ideal day and bag for our young sewist! The Myrna has a fully lined interior, a boxed bottom, two external zipper pockets, one exterior slip pocket, and an adjustable crossbody strap. The size of this bag is ideal for both daily use and travel. How much you can fit in this bag will surprise you!

On October 31st, join Carol for Embroidery Card Class 201. Have you ever spent hours trying to find a special card for a friend or relative? With Donna Rauff’s techniques and designs and your embroidery machine, you can make beautiful, one-of-a-kind personalized cards. In Card Making Class 101, you learned the basics of Donna’s techniques. In Class 201, we will take it to the next level, learning how to make fabric frames and using organza to make cards even more special.

Who is ready for some computerized quilting? Carol will teach you all the tips and tricks of the Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles on October 4th. Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles are a complete system for quilting using your home embroidery machine. The stitching goes through all three layers of a quilt sandwich (back fabric, batting, and top fabric), with traditional, continuous quilting on both sides of your project. Plus, you can quilt borders and cornerstones using the tiles. In this class, you will bring a small pieced project of your choosing (table topper, placemats, a small wall hanging, or baby quilt), and Carol will walk you through the steps to achieve the look of custom quilting on your project. Don’t own Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles yet? Stop by the classroom on the day of the class, and Carol will demo the tiles for you.

Carol also has a fun Machine Embroidery Class October 10th when she will be teaching a Janine Babich Design, Welcome Friends. Welcome friends into your home with this small wall hanging that features curvy lettering adorned with your choice of 3D ornamentation (wild roses, sunflowers, poinsettias, or autumnal leaves). Everyone loves these designs, and this one gives you four different seasons to enjoy. Carol has some great tips to share with you!

If you need a great bag for coming to all these wonderful classes, then you need “A Place for Everything.” This is a two-session class in which Carol will help you construct your bag. This spacious organizer stores and carries tools and supplies, providing visibility and easy access for all. The bag features handles and an adjustable/detachable carrying strap along with two removable pocket pages with mesh or vinyl pockets in a variety of styles. Abundant pockets in a variety of styles are the key to ensuring that there is a place for everything and that everything is in its place! Session #1, October 11th, and the second session, October 25th .

Calling all Divas! Join Carol in her Divas, Divas, Divas, Wallet Class. You will leave with a fun Mini Diva Wallet or maybe even two!! This is a fun class, and these wallets make great gifts!

Joanne has some great quilt classes coming this month. The Ombre Ripple pattern has been a bestseller and she’s answered the requests for a class to help with the quilt construction! Join Joanne on October 9th to create your own Ombre Ripple. With its cascade of colors, this quilt is fun to look at and easy to make! Two values of five different colorways create the dimensional rippling effect of this eye-catching design, and easy block construction makes this quilt quick to put together. In class, we will discuss ways to stay organized and how to accurately sew intersections to keep from losing the stair-step design that makes this quilt spectacular.

Next, Joanne is offering a 3-session class for Starry Night. Starry Night is a wonderfully adorable and intriguing quilt pattern that brings out all the feelings of good will and joy that goes along with the Christmas season. There are multiple layout options available, including the large quilt that measures 75” x 78”. If you don’t want to make the full quilt (15 different blocks), you are free to mix and match the various components to create one of the seven other layout options shown in the pattern or design a quilt that fits your needs. Individual blocks can be used to make smaller quilts, wall hangings, pillows, or any project that speaks to your heart. In this 3-session class, you will learn to use the Wonder Curve Ruler, the newest curved piecing tool from Sew Kind of Wonderful that makes block construction easy and unique. In each session, we will focus on specific techniques for using the ruler and build from there. The final session will include help determining your layout and finishing the quilt(s). Session #1 is October 10th, Session #2 is October 24th, and Session #3 is November 20th.

Plays Well with Others is an original design by Joanne. This class has sold out three times, so here’s your chance to take the class. This is a fantastic quilt to clear out some of your beloved scaps. Learn the wonderful process of string piecing on foundation while making this fun and beautiful quilt. The sample quilt finished at approximately 48” x 58", but you can adjust the size to whatever you want and Joanne will provide you with the information you need to do that.

November will be here before you know it and the store will be busy as usual. On November 2nd, Carol will be teaching the Aunties Two Little Poppins Bag. This bag, with its large zippered tote, is great for all your stuff. There are 2 outside pockets and 2 inside pockets to keep your things organized. Click HERE for more November classes.
