Wow, March flew by and here we are, ready for Spring. We had a fantastic March here at the Ridge. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first Spring Extravaganza. We would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to our presenters Amanda Murphy, Mary Beck, Venitta McCall, Pam Mahshie, and Kellie Rushing, and to our wonderful vendors Benartex Fabric, Amanda’s Bundles, Tina Tveitnes Jewelry Studio, Tami Pfeil Canvas Rugs, OESD, and Brewer Quilting and Sewing Supplies. Thank you to our fantastic staff, our District Manager John Carr, National Sales Manager of Benartex Jeremy Jeffries, BERNINA Longarm Q-Series Sales Manager Vince Nutt, and to our helpers. In our BERNINA Domestic Classroom, we are hosting Nina McVeigh. Nina is a quilter, designer, and fabric artist who previously owned a quilt shop for 15 years and most recently was the Quilting and Longarm Specialist for BERNINA of America, where she was instrumental in the development of BERNINA’s Longarm Quilting Machines. She has written for several magazines including McCall’s Quilting, Designs in Machine Embroidery and Through the Needle. Nina has contributed to the WeAllSew Blog, writing articles on Heirloom Sewing and Quilting. She travels and teaches and gets so much inspiration from her students! She has also developed a line of Quilting Rulers. Nina will be offering 3 sessions of Quilting with Rulers on a Domestic Machine. Nina’s classes are full; however, we will be offering 20 of the BERNINA 770 QE Plus machines at a great show price. Call for details or reserve your machine for purchase.

We would love to see all our Chestnut Ridge Friends and Family at the Akron Original Sewing & Quilt Expo. We are hosting the BERNINA of America booth and during the show we are also offering a Make N’ Take project. Stop by the Chestnut Ridge Sewing Make N Take Booth and “Sew for a Cause.” Sew out two drawstring bags (one for yourself and one for donation). The donation bags will be filled with hygiene items and after the event they will be donated to the Haven Of Rest Ministries. This wonderful organization provides emergency services and Christ-centered programs. We are collecting hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion, hand cream and sanitizer. When you make a donation at the store, we will provide you with a FREE ticket to the Expo, while supplies last. We have the best customers in the whole world!! Our donation tub is overflowing, but we can always use more. Thank you for your donations.

Upcoming Classes & Events

Something very exciting is coming to Chestnut Ridge Sewing! Have you heard about the ditto pattern projector? We can’t wait for you to meet DITTO! Join Elisa and staff as they demonstrate the system from start to finish. Our FREE “Meet Ditto Day” will be May 5th from 11:00 to 1:00. This is a FREE demo/lecture for you to see ditto in action. The day will include light refreshments and lots of fun. Click the link for full details. We are also scheduling classes for any of the new Ditto owners. Hope to see you there.

April also kicks off the season of Shop Hops. Join us for the Quilting N’ Cuisine Mini Shop Hop April 20th and 21st, from 9:00 - 5:00. We’ve combined quilting and cuisine for a fun day out with your friends! You will visit 6 area quilt shops, get your passport stamped, sample delicious food, receive recipes and patterns, and view projects at each shop. The last shop you visit will collect your fully stamped passport, making you eligible for the prize drawings. Call or stop in to purchase your passport.

Carol has some fun classes coming up. Join her for the Necessary Clutch Wallet by Emmaline Bags, April 26th. You will just fall in love with this pattern. You can carry your cell phone, checks, cash, cards, coins and still have room for your favorite lipstick or even personal items. With its closed ends, everything is safe and secure and there is never any worry about anything sliding out.

On April 28th, Carol will be joined by Amanda to host the OESD Stitch Party. In this class, which is perfect for beginners, you will make 2 wonderful projects. Take a break from reading and make time to create a Zen Bookmark. You will love the new world of free-standing applique and OESD’s Luxe Sparkle Vinyl! The second project you’ll make is a Reverse Applique Notebook Cover. Organize your thoughts, to do lists, or just about anything with this trendy, but durable notebook cover. These in-the-hoop covers are quick to stitch and fun for everyone.

Susan Pfaff is doing a wonderful project called “Sewing Savvy Block of the Month”. You can jump in at any time. During these sessions you will create a fun block or crazy patch wall quilt while gaining skills that you can use in all of your sewing projects. This month you will be mastering Buttonholes, Creating Chenille, Gathering with the Gathering Foot and more Circular Sewing. All machines are welcome, from basic to top-of-the line! April class will be held Wednesday the 19th.

Our BERNINA Boot Camp with Sylvain Bergeron is filling fast. We currently have only 7 seats available. During this 4-day event, you will be taken beyond the basics for an in-depth train into your machines. Event includes 3 days of Sewing and 1 day of Machine Embroidery. As we mentioned last month, we are very excited to have Betty Firebaugh back for our Software Classes. In April we start a series of Advance Software Classes. April 17th, join Betty for Practical Digitizing. Class #1 focuses on lettering and design alignment, downloading fonts, and using perfect placement on the BERNINA machines. Students will leave with valuable resources that were not included with the Mastery Classes However, students must have completed Mastery Class #1 and #2 prior to taking Betty’s class.

It’s time to start planning your project for the Runway at The Ridge 2024. This year we are excited to have featured Fabric Designer, Valentina Harper join us as one of our judges. Categories have been chosen and will include, Bags/Wallet, Machine Quilting, Machine Piecing, Embroidery, Garment, and a NEW category - Designer’s Choice. Please watch for more details and announcements.
