Hello, Fall! September was a busy month here at the Ridge! The classroom was lively with both classes and events, including our 3rd Annual Runway at the Ridge. It was truly an amazing day, and we were blown away by the projects we saw. Thanks to all who participated, to those in the audience, and to our amazing judges and emcees. We are already making plans for 2025. Congratulations to our winners!

The All Ohio Shop Hop has come to a close, and we thank the over 1,700 shop hoppers who stopped in at CRS. We had a great time meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones during the past 60 days, and we couldn’t be more excited for next year. 

We’ll continue welcoming people at the store for the Ohio Amish Country Quilt Shop Hop which runs from October 28th through November 2nd. Join this six-day event as we celebrate 24 years filled with friends, fabric, and prizes. Betty will be busy in the classroom with various digitizing classes, including Advanced Digitizing on October 10th. Students will be creating an in-the-hoop zipper project. If time permits, students may also digitize a mug rug with an envelope back. Betty returns to the classroom on October 29th with her Practical Digitizing class in which students will focus on digitizing a logo. Betty will guide you through the process of using the proper sewing sequence, colors, and fills. There are even more digitizing classes in November and December, so be sure to check the website for dates.

Susan will be winding down her Sewing Savvy Block of the Month Series on October 10th. She’ll be walking you through the process of quilt assembly. After this class, students will have completed a fun, nine-block crazy patch wall quilt! Their blocks can also be used as mini-quilts, pillows, tote bags, and more.

We are excited to welcome Claudia Dinnell back to Chestnut Ridge for a fun-filled, hands-on workshop from October 17th to 19th. There are only 3 spots left! Claudia will be teaching her latest workshop-exclusive design, Autumn Skies. This beautiful project will instantly make you think of crisp fall wind and the sound of rustling leaves ushering in autumn – the season of plenty, when the harvest is maturing, and food, family, and friends are abundant! You are welcome to work on this project or any other of Claudia’s beautiful designs. As a bonus, Claudia is bringing all of her designs and samples! This is a great opportunity to see her work and purchase more designs for your own collection.

Join Elisa for the Stanton Hoodie Serger Along on October 21st and create a stylish, cozy pullover hoodie. The pattern is custom-fitted to your body and works well with all shapes and sizes. You will be amazed at how easy and fun it is to create a hoodie with an amazing, comfortable fit. We will be using our sergers exclusively for construction, and Elisa will guide you step by step through the process.

Carol will be in the classroom October 22nd and 23rd teaching the handy Tools of the Trade carrier. This ‘By Annie’ project comes in two sizes and is designed to store, protect, and carry oversized items like rulers, cutting mats, sketchbooks, and even computers. In this two-day class, Carol will walk you through the steps of creating your own carrier that will easily become one of your favorite totes with so many features.

The Berlin Grande Retreat is just weeks away! We are looking forward to having Janine Babich from Janine Babich Designs, Charisma Horton from Charisma’s Corner, and Rhoda Beachy and Elisa Milano from Chestnut Ridge Sewing join us for this great event. Students will create three different projects in which they sew, embroider, and serge. Spaces are filled, but there is a waiting list. Click HERE to add your name! This year has flown by, and the holidays are fast approaching! Why not let us help you prepare? Join our Merry Making Series! We’ve designed five holiday-themed classes to create or finish quick holiday gifts. Kimmy is starting the series with a Rope Bowl Class on November 18th. In this half-day class, you’ll learn how easy it is to construct rope bowls while making three to take home.  On November 19th and 20th, Joanne will be in the classroom hosting a Panel Pattern Party and spreading her Scallop Border Magic! During the Panel Party, you’ll take a fabric panel to the next level by turning it into a quilt with the choice of three patterns, making the perfect quick gift. In the Scallop Magic class, you will learn how to use the Creative Grids Scallop Template to add some ‘’va-va-voom’’ to your quilt borders. The best part? The scallop template takes all the math and guesswork out of creating these fun borders. Betty is bringing the festivities by teaching 3-D Stumpwork Poinsettias on November 21st. Students will learn how to use their embroidery machines to create poinsettia leaves with wire and assemble them into a flower. Wrap up the series by taking Practical Digitizing with Betty on November 26th and learn how to make quilt labels and use Word Art to personalize gifts.

Back by popular demand! We’re excited to host the 2025 Winter Retreat at the Ridge! Join us for three fun-filled days while working on projects and spending time with new and old friends. A block of rooms is available at the Berlin Grande and sewing machines can be rented.

Save the date! The 2025 Spring Extravaganza is taking place March 18th through March 20th. This three-day event features classes with national instructors, vendors, and a grand prize. Attendees will also be treated to a private evening at the Ridge. Additionally, this event is all inclusive! The fee includes all kits, class supplies, lunches, and use of BERNINA sewing machines during class. A block of rooms is available at the Berlin Encore Hotel & Suites for your convenience.

We’re SEW excited to have Krista Moser here at the Ridge twice next year! She’ll be here in May and September, teaching two classes each month. Registration is open, but seats are going fast! In May, Krista will be teaching a class May 13th through 14th and May 15th through 16th. During the May classes, students will be using Krista’s 1611 Union Street pattern to create a dimensional project. In September, Krista is teaching September 16th through 17th and September 18th through 19th. This project has not been decided yet. Her classes are always a crowd favorite, so be sure to register soon!

Longarm Rentals

Chestnut Ridge Sewing offers training and certification on the sit-down and frame machines. We also train you in using the computerized Q-matic on the frame. Following the training/certification, you can come rent our machines to complete your quilts.

Longarm Quilting Services

Chestnut Ridge Sewing's longarm specialists will have an initial consultation with you to determine thread color and the overall quilting design. Currently, we have a 3-4 week turnaround. We can also do binding for you! 

Need training in Q-matic that you purchased elsewhere? No worries! We have a one-time fee to train you in our store or your home (mileage extra). We’ll help you feel confident putting those computerized stitches into your quilt!
