April has flown by and here we are ready for May!

We were SEW excited to see so many of you at the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo in Akron. We want to thank our friends Sue O’Very Pruitt and Nina McVeigh for their excellent classes in the BERNINA of America Booth during the Expo. We received excellent feedback and appreciate them sharing their time and talent with us.

Our outreach project Sewing for a Cause at the Make-and-Take Booth during the Expo was a great success! We were able to donate 165 Ditty Bags and several full cartons of hygiene products to Haven of Rest Ministries. We want to thank each of you for your contributions to this project. We plan to continue to “Pay it Forward” in the future with similar projects. Stay tuned on how you can be a part of this!

Next year the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo will return to the I-X Center in Cleveland on April 18, 19, & 20, 2024. Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for updates on classes and exciting things happening in 2024!

The Quilting n Cuisine Mini Shop-Hop was SEW fun! We want to say thank you to over 400 ladies and gentlemen that came to the Hop! We had a blast! Thanks to Joanne Hubbard for her planning and creativity with the demos at Chestnut Ridge, as well as designing our quilts and writing the patterns. Her vision continues to grow this event and make it better each year! We hope to see you again this fall, September 21st and September 22nd for Gathering Stitches - Demos-Donuts-Discounts

We are getting excited for the first All Ohio Shop Hop, which will take place August 1 - September 30, 2023. There are over 60 stores participating in the Hop and hundreds of prizes to win. The All Ohio Shop Hop Magazine, which is your guide to all things about this event and includes the passport you’ll need to visit each store and qualify for prizes, will be in stores mid-June, but we are taking pre-orders so you are sure to get yours. Upcoming Classes & Events

We are excited about our Meet Ditto Day on Friday, May 5 from 11 am - 1 pm. Join Elisa and a Ditto Representative Leslie Moore as they demonstrate the system from start to finish. This is a FREE demo/lecture for you to see Ditto in action. The day will include light refreshments and lots of fun. Click the link for full details. We are also scheduling classes for any of the new Ditto owners. Hope to see you there!

Do you find it difficult to find pants that fit you well? Do you want a perfect fit? On May 8, join Elisa for her Pant Fitting and Factory Techniques class. Each student will leave with a fitted muslin garment and learn how to transfer any fitting changes back to the pattern. Register for the class and keep the skills you learn for future garments you create for a perfect fit!

Carol is offering her Tools of the Trade class (two sessions) on May 3 and May 17! These functional carriers in two sizes are designed to store, protect, and carry oversized items such as rulers, cutting mats, and sketchbooks. Personalize your bag and enjoy it for years to come!

On May 9, Carol is offering Home for the Holidays Card Class. This class is a prerequisite for all future card classes, so it’s a great one to register for if you have your eye on future card classes! Using Donna Rauff’s techniques and designs and your embroidery machine, you can make beautiful, one-of-a-kind personalized cards. In this class, you will learn the basics of Donna’s techniques and be well on your way to creating wonderful personalized greeting cards.

Join Carol on May 15th for Stash and Dash - a great introductory class for By Annie patterns. In this class, you will learn techniques for sewing with mesh, fabrics, vinyl, zippers, and binding - all while making a handy little wrap that is perfect to use as an emergency car kit, sewing supply organizer, first aid kit, and SEW much more. The possibilities are endless!

Elisa will be back on May 16th for the Bodice Fitting and Factory Techniques class in which you will learn an easy method to approach fitting for yourself. The class will involve one-on-one instructions and demonstrating factory techniques for sewing collars, cuffs, and hems like a pro.

We are thrilled to welcome BERNINA of America Educator Sylvain Bergeron to the store May 23-26 for the BERNINA Bootcamp. Sylvain will be helping BERNINA machine owners master their machine in this 4-day workshop that will go beyond the basics for an in-depth training on how to get the most out of their machines.

We will be finishing out May with the OESD Stitch Party on the 31st. Join Carol and Amanda and make two projects - a Cutwork Medallion Clutch and a two-sided Wedding Day Garden Flag. You will learn to work with cork and Luxe Sparkle Vinyl for the clutch and how to change the bottom edge of the garden flag from a rectangle to a triangle. This is a great class to dip your toes into the world of embroidery!

Registration for Runway at the Ridge is now open! We had such a great event in 2022, we know you will love what Runway 2023 will bring! Contestants have the choice of six categories in which to compete. Categories include Apparel, Bags, Machine Quilting, Quilt - Machine Piecing, Machine Embroidery, and Designers Choice. There will be prizes for each category, a Viewers’ Choice Award and a Best of Show grand prize valued at over $700! Check out the criteria, categories and registration information here!
