Welcome to March in Ohio! We made it through the cold and snowy days of February and look forward to some “Spring Time”. We finished February with our Winter Retreat to the Ridge. The ladies had a fantastic time and produced some lovely projects. We offer 3 in house retreat each year. We are partnering with The Inn at Walnut Creek just a mile from the store and oh so convenient. These events have been very popular. Our June retreat is full, but you can be placed on the waiting list through Eventbrite (no charge until you are moved into the event) We still have openings for December 2021 and February 2022. Hope to see you there.

Sew now it’s time for us to get back out on the road. March 4th, we will begin with the Ohio Amish Country Home and Garden Show in Mt. Hope. This is a wonderful show full of everything you love about Amish Country. We are surrounded by furniture, both indoor and outdoor, gardening, home items, home improvement, etc. It’s all under one roof and fills 62,000 sq ft. During the show, we offer machine specials and 25% off all Bernina Feet. You can shop these great bargains in store, at the show, or even have your items brought to the show for pick up. Please call to place your pre-show orders. 330-893-3359 ext. 2. If you don’t make it to the show, there is still a great Foot and Accessory sale for you to take advantage of. For the month of March, Bernina is offering 20% savings on BERNINA/Bernette Feet and Accessories. Our next Sit and Sew is scheduled for March 8th. Bring a project or two of your own choosing and get some serious work done on it. While these are self-guided sew days, Joanne will be available to help with quilting, Betty will be available to help with machine embroidery, and Rhoda can help with your serger needs. There is always lots of sewing, laughter, and fellowship, so come join the fun. When you register for class, please let us know what project you will be working on so the teachers can be prepared.

With this event all machines, kits and lunch are provided. Kellie our favorite Oklahoma Embroidery Supply and Design (OESD) Instructor is BACK. From beginner to advanced, you will love this event! One day filled with 3 great projects, plus all the tips and information and special event pricing. If you are the owner of a new embroidery machine (within the past 12 months) there is a special gift for you! This class is also great for anyone who is thinking about an Embroidery Machine purchase and would like to take a test drive.

Kellie Rushing Educational ConsultantKellie began sewing at the age of 5 when her grandmother taught her hand embroidery and crochet. Her love of sewing continued through junior high and high school, with home economics adding a passion for machine sewing. In her 20’s, Kellie decided to use her skill at sewing to start a home based business making custom draperies. After moving to the Dallas area, she opened a sewing machine dealership. When she sold her business, Kellie became a freelance educator and a National Tradeshow team member. She loves going into stores and educating consumers on all things sewing! Machine embroidery is a particular favorite. Kellie enjoys reading, knitting and travel when she isn’t in her sewing studio. Kellie lives in a suburb of Ft. Worth, TX with her husband and her beloved dog, Roxie. |

We love our OESD Technique classes. This month Betty will be introducing you to a great OESD School of Embroidery “Marmalade Placemat” The principles are the same for a placemat as for a quilt. This is a fun project that teaches the different aspects of the techniques in a simple, achievable format. It’s also a great way to audition quilting designs before you tackle that bed size quilt. Calculate your Monthly Payment We have a great new class for Beginning Quilters. Have you always wanted to learn to make a quilt or just want to fine tune some of your skills? Many of us were actually self taught and can benefit from some tips and tricks. Join Joanne for her 4 week Beginning Quilters Class. (a few spots remain in this first session and the class will be repeated) Elisa’s garment classes have been fantastic! We have added several more of her existing classes and we have added a few new ones too! March 15th she is offering her Bodice Fitting and Factory Construction Techniques. This class will involve one-on-one instruction regarding an easy method to approach fitting for yourself that will bring back the joy of sewing garments. March 16th Elisa is back with Pant and Skirt Fitting. This will be a class for anyone who has completed Garment Construction 1 & 2. Elisa will cover how to take your measurement accurately, how to select size and trace patterns for the best fit. You will be sewing out a test garment for fitting purposes. Each student will leave with a fitted muslin item and learn how to transfer any fitting changes back onto the original pattern. Carol is hosting a make and take Kimberbell Club. In this event you will complete a super cute Flamingo Pillow. Design is only available through this event. This is an open format, so you can join her any time that works for you. If you would rather put your flamingo on a Kimberbell Tote that is also an option. Looking for some cute and quick seasonal decorations? Check out the Seasons in Patches with Joanne. You can choose from a variety of pattern options to make during class, Valentine, Shamrock, Sunflower or several Winter themes. Once you learn the technique you will want to make one for every month. Edge to Edge Quilting with your embroidery machine is sew popular. This is a fantastic class and Betty and Carol will guide you through the technique of using your home embroidery machine to quilt your quilts. Betty will work with anyone that has a Plus Bernina Machine and work through the Endless Embroidery feature. This is yet another great way to use your embroidery machine. We will be ending the month with “Embroidered Greeting Cards”. If you are watching our Facebook Site and the Friends of Chestnut Ridge Facebook you have seen our friend Donna Rauff and her beautiful cards. We are hoping she will be able to join us (from New York) at our next class. However, Carol and Ellen will get you up to speed with the basic card class. These cards are perfect for all occasions. Looking for a new serger? Join Sandra Swick, Bernina Event Team Member for two days (April 16th and 17th) with the Bernina L850 and Bernina L890. Sandra will introduce you to a wide variety of stitches and techniques. Get hands on time with the New BERNINA Air-threading Overlockers as you create a mystery project. This hands on event will include use of machines (one per student), all supplies, machine and accessories, special event pricing, lunch, and lots of fun. Looking for some additional Bernina Q Series and Ruler Work Q Series and domestic machine Classes. Betsy from the Bernina Event Team will be with us May 13th and 14th.
