We started Spring off with a great Shop Hop.  The weather in Amish Country may not have been perfect, but we had a fabulous time!  We’ve combined two events into one GREAT EVENT - Gathering Stitches Shop Hop. Participants visited six local shops, enjoyed a 20% discount from each shop, and received a surprise gift and a goody bag.  While at each shop, they watched a demo and sampled some delicious food.

Monday, April 15th, Carol is offering a Beginner Friendly Embroidery Class.  Dust off that module and join Carol for Sew Necessary By Patch Abilities.  This is a perfect way to brush up your embroidery skills and make a darling wall hanging for your sewing room. 

Also on April 15th, Elisa and Rhoda are making totes in Serger Savvy Class.  Gail Yellen’s, Serger Tote Bag Pattern is a big hit!  This bag features beautiful specialty stitching and your favorite decorative threads. It is perfect for all serger brands and models. Decorative stitch options are provided for both overlock only and overlock/coverstitch machines. This is a beautiful project to show off the amazing surface design techniques you and your serger can create!  All sergers are welcome.  Please note you must have experience with your serger. 

Later that week, we will pack up and head to Cleveland for the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo.  The show opens on April 18th and ends on April 20th.  We are going to be hopping with two classrooms.  We have a domestic machine room with BERNINA 770 Plus Machines and the Longarm Room with 10 of our BERNINA Q-Series Sitdown Machines.  We will have some great show discounts on all these machines.  Save between $100 and $1,000 off all machine purchases at the show! 

We will also be offering 2.99% interest for 60 months on any machine over $3,000.

Our good friend Tami Pfeil will be with us on April 24th and 25th for her Slub Canvas Tote Bag and Holiday Floor Canvas classes.  Tami’s designs are just so happy and fun!  The Slub Canvas Tote Bag is a roomy tote that is perfect for all of your essentials. Use it in the car, take it to the pool, or tote your items for a class. This is super quick and easy to put together and is great for sewers of all skill levels. 

The Holiday Floor Canvas is easy and super fun to create.  The ease and flexibility of a floor canvas will have you creating a “mini quilts for the floor” to use in the kitchen, bath, hallway, entry, mud room, and more.  All festive options are based on classic HandBEHG Felts designs and holiday themes, perfect for your home and gift-giving!  

We end the month with the April Sewing Savvy Block class which is full of wonderful techniques.  Join Susan for buttonholes, creating chenille, gathering with the gathering foot, more circular sewing, narrow hemming and much more.  Susan has made a full quilt of the Savvy Blocks, but you can make individual blocks to create pillows, wall hangings, table runners, etc. Join at any time and start creating your project today!

Let’s take a quick look at the classes coming up in the first weeks of May.  On May 1st Carol will be teaching her new Myrna Bag by Sallie Tomato The Myrna Bag is the enlarged version of the Zippy Crossbody Bag Pattern. So many Zippy Bag fans have been requesting a larger size and Myrna is the perfect size for traveling or everyday use. You’ll be surprised how much you can fit inside this bag! The exterior of this wonderful bag can be made with quilting cotton, canvas, denim, or linen with contrasting cotton fabric, denim, canvas, linen, cork, or faux leather. The interior lining should be cotton or linen.

Would you like to learn more about making your own garments?  Join Elisa for the three-session class of Mastering Modern Tailoring.  The first session of this three-session class is May 3rd. In this class, Elisa will teach a more modern technique of tailoring…. speed tailoring. Using a combination of light and medium-weight interfacing and various seam tapes, this method creates the structure and look we want in a well-made garment. We will add structure to the chest and shoulders by layering interfacing. Welted pockets will be featured and demonstrated to get the results you want. We will stack and set-in sleeves and spend time setting the roll of the lapels and collar. You will enjoy this method and find it is NOT time-consuming or frustrating. It is straightforward and can be applied to any jacket or coat you make in the future. We will work step by step together resulting in a garment that you can be proud to wear and will cherish.
