Small Cherry Quilting Clapper
The clapper is not a new idea. It was first used over 100 years ago by tailors in England to create sharp, crisp seams. When used with your steam iron, the clapper assists in providing flatter seams while piecing your quilt. This natural hardwood clapper is unfinished and absorbs the steam from your iron, trapping the heat inside your fabric. By providing this balance between the dry fabric and the steam from your iron, the result is a flatter and crisper seam than you can achieve with your steam iron alone. Simply press your seam as you normally would using a steam iron or a regular iron and a spray bottle with water, then place the clapper over the freshly steamed seam and let it sit for about 5 seconds. You may also choose to use a small amount of hand pressure on the top of the clapper or to use a wool pressing mat under the fabric, but those are a matter of personal preference. Try the clapper and you will be amazed at the difference in your seams!
