Meet the Instructor:
Patricia (Pat) began sewing at a very young age. She grew up watching and learning from her grandmother, who was a professional tailoress. She was sewing most of her own clothes by the time she reached high school. When Pat became a mother, (four boys and a daughter), she began sewing her children’s clothing, toys, costumes, and nearly anything else her family needed or wanted.
As her children grew, Pat branched out and began sewing for others. She has sewn bridal gowns, draperies, aircraft seat covers, and about everything in between. 15 years ago, Pat saw a custom-made umbrella and took a class from the pattern designer. That led Pat into sewing umbrellas and an assortment of accessories, including designer-style handbags and, most recently, quilted sneakers. She began teaching a variety of classes and found a calling for sharing her joy of sewing and introducing her students to new and exciting projects.
In 2022, Pat retired from her career as a Construction Project Manager and moved to Western Montana with her husband, where they built their retirement home. Motivated to start her own business, she chose the name SEW 406—a nod to Montana’s statewide 406 area code, which holds special significance for Montanans as a mark of local pride.
Pat enjoys in-person or virtual visits with her children, their spouses, and her seven grandchildren. She has been teaching several of her grandchildren to sew via live internet lessons and cherishes these moments. When not sewing or teaching, Pat spends time in the surrounding mountains, appreciating the beauty and wonders of nature.

Practical Digitizing - Class #5: Sketch Digitizing
In this series of classes, students will learn techniques they will need to accomplish everyday digitizing projects. We will learn the proper alignment of designs and focus primarily on manual digitizing. By the end of all sessions, students should be able to digitize logos and drawings.
Class #5 focuses on a technique called sketch digitizing. This technique is helpful when digitizing large open items. It can be used in conjunction with other fills. When using this technique, students will learn the importance of planning the project to eliminate jumps in the embroidery sequencing.
We will review previous projects and also present the designs for the Project Linus quilt.
