Kellie Rushing - Educational Consultant

Kellie began sewing at the age of 5 when her grandmother taught her hand embroidery and crochet.  Her love of sewing continued through junior high and high school, with home economics adding a passion for machine sewing.

In her 20’s,  Kellie decided to use her skill at sewing to start a home based business making custom draperies. After moving to the Dallas area, she opened a sewing machine dealership.

When she sold her business, Kellie became a freelance educator and a National Trade Show team member. She loves going into stores and educating consumers on all things sewing! Machine embroidery is a particular favorite.

Kellie enjoys reading, knitting and travel when she isn’t in her sewing studio.  Kellie lives in a suburb of Ft. Worth, TX with her husband and her beloved dog, Roxie.

Sage Owl Oven Mitt

Sage Owl Oven Mitt

There are two definitions for the word sage. One meaning wisdom and good judgment, as in sage advice. The other, a savory culinary herb popular in meat and poultry dishes. Take our advice and serve up a spicy dish for your family with these adorable owl oven mitts. In three sizes, for holding saucepan handles to a cast iron skillet, your fingers fit just inside the wings. We've stitched our owls with Woolies flannel and recommend a layer of insulated lining like Insul-Bright for use as a hot pad or oven mitt.

Betsy Carlson travels across the country representing BERNINA as a member of the Event Team, Product and Sales Training Team. She has recently joined the Q Series Event Team to promote BERNINA Q 20 and Q 24 Longarm Quilting Machines at quilt and sewing shows. She also trains staff and customers by presenting the ‘Longing for a Longarm’ event.

Betsy’s love affair with BERNINA began as a teenager, pining over BERNINA machines at the fabric store. The Free Hand System caught her eye, reminding her of the machines she used while working in an alterations department. Finally, she bought a BERNINA 1130, and created Nine Patch Sewing Co., performing alterations and creating custom window treatments, custom clothing and slip covers, while making clothing for her children. When Betsy learned to quilt, she was hand piecing and quilting, then transitioned to using her machine for both tasks.

BERNINA became part of Betsy’s career when she joined a dealership as the Mastery, Embroidery and Software instructor. Joining the BERNINA Event Team created an opportunity to share her love of BERNINA at BERNINA stores and quilt/sewing shows across the country. When Betsy has an opportunity to sew for herself, she is creating art quilts, inspired by yearly retreats with Nancy Crow at the Crow Barn.

Class Series Description

Often new machine owners wonder “What’s my next step after my embroidery guide class?” “How can I learn more about embroidery techniques?” In answer to those questions, Chestnut Ridge Sewing is pleased to announce we are now offering classes from the OESD School of Embroidery. These classes focus on embroidery techniques and explain the theory behind them.

Each month we do a small project while exploring the methods used to create the embroidery. We will discuss the best practices to use and available products that will help the user gain confidence in their stitching skills.

Please join Carol and Betty on the last Monday of each month for a fun day of learning more about machine embroidery. Bring a sack lunch and plan to stay for the day. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
